Mary "Joan" Gruenke - Obituary

ary Joan Gruenke, 94, a 16-year resident of Edgewater, MD, passed away on February 26, 2024, at South River Healthcare Center. Known to family and friends as Joan, she was born on September 6, 1929, in Dublin, Ireland, to the late Peter and Delia Ellard. Joan's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Gruenke, and five brothers, Paddy, Peter, James, Michael, and Paul Ellard. Joan is survived by four children, Peter, John, and Wendy Gruenke, and Jeannette (Keith) McCaffrey; a sister, Connie O'Reilly; eight grandchildren, Amanda Gruenke, Rachel Gruenke, Kyle McCaffrey, Charlotte Duncan, Sara Gruenke, Ryan McCaffrey, Trevor Duncan, and Gabrielle Duncan; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Villalobas and Caden Gruenke. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Monday, March 4 at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD.
